HMHS CLASS OF 1963
Members of HMHS Class of 1963,
Your 45th Reunion planning Committee met last
Saturday and finalized plans for our class dinner. It will
be held at the Merchantville Country Club on Chapel Ave. in
Merchantville from 6:30 to 11:30 on October 25. We will have
appetizers, Caesar salad, grilled salmon and carved prime
rib (tortellini in cream sauce for our vegetarian classmates),
vegetables, dessert and you will receive two drink tickets.
The chef at MCC is the former lunch chef at the world-renowned
Le Bec Fin in Philadelphia. The cost of the dinner will be
$75 per person, the same price as the 40th Reunion class dinner.
We are excited about this very elegant venue for our reunion.
Because many of you want more time to reconnect
than just that evening (and because it worked in 2003), the
reunion will be held from Friday through Sunday. We have not
decided on any activities for the rest of the weekend because
we are waiting to see how many of you are planning to return
and what your preferences are. This is the purpose of the
preliminary registration form attached to this email. At our
next meeting in mid-May, we will review the responses we have
received and plan the rest of the weekend based on those responses.
Choosing an activity now is not a commitment; it just allows
us to gauge interest in them. Please suggest any other activities
that would be of interest to you.
If you are planning to attend the reunion, we
ask you to please print out, complete and return the attached
preliminary registration form with your deposit (payable
to HMHS Class of 1963) as soon as possible, but no later than
May 1. We will send you a reunion registration form in late
summer. Deposits received prior to October 1 will be refunded
if you find you cannot attend.
Through the efforts of our webmaster, Mark McGrath,
our class web site http://www.hmhs63.50megs.com/ remains active.
We encourage you to send to Mark (mfmcgrath@hotmail.com)
recent pictures and your brief bio. We did this in 2003 and
many found it helpful to begin the reconnection process early.
Mark will also post your name under the "Who's coming
to the 45th?" link when we receive your preregistration.
Photos of classmates are posted under "2008
Photos." Also, please check the lost list. Many of
our classmates have been missing for many years. Can you help
us find any of them?
Some class statistics: This email is being sent
to 141 members of our class. A similar letter will be sent
to 45 members for whom we have no email address (at least
not yet). 55 members of our class are lost and, unfortunately,
20 have died. I have attached the obituary
of Paul Friend, the most recent to leave us.
Most of you know that with the $1500 we collected
from the silent auction we conducted in during our 40th we
awarded $500 scholarships to graduates of the HMHS classes
of 2004, 2005 and 2006. Last year we asked for donations from
the class and again awarded the scholarship. We have $2733
remaining in a trust account with HMHS for future scholarships.
We would like to see that amount grow so that the interest
it earns will eventually allow the Class of 1963 Scholarship
to be awarded in perpetuity. With that in mind, we will again
offer a scholarship to a graduate of the Class of 2008, and
we are asking you to make a donation. Any contributions we
receive in excess of the scholarship will be added to the
endowment. Your check should be made payable to the HMHS Scholarship
Fund with Class of 1963 Scholarship Fund in the memo line
of your check and included with your preliminary registration.
(Do NOT make this check payable to the Class of 1963.) Since
the HMHS Fund is a 501(c) (3) entity, contributions to it
are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Here is how
the recipient selection process works:
1. The recipient must be enrolled at HMHS, be
graduating in the spring of the year the award is to be made
and be planning to attend an institution of higher education.
2. The recipient must have demonstrated need
for financial aid, and must have shown high academic achievement
and involvement in the HMHS community as a student.
3. Each year, the recipient will be selected
by HMHS according to the criteria set forth in (1) and (2)
above. HMHS will report the name of the recipient to the Class
of 1963 treasurer prior to commencement. The recipient will
be known as the HMHS Class of 1963 Scholarship Recipient.
4. The Class will determine annually the amount
of the scholarship to be awarded from the Class of 1963 Scholarship
Fund and notify HMHS prior to May 1. The award from the Fund
will be made through the Haddonfield Alumni Society.
5. Any Fund balance that is not awarded will
be held in the Fund for the following year.
